Understand

The Problem

A sound engineer arrives on stage without prior knowledge of the scene/live stage, He/She needs to resolve sound problems, in short time.where the user can get help?

The Solution

Let me introduce "Gostage", a Social informative app that provides simple tools and relevant information that creates a better environment for the Sound engineer before the event.

Research

📊Approach - User Research

In my research I focused on exploring the most common sound troubleshoot issues soundtechnicians have to deal with while working on stage.

I sent out questioners via google form to 35 sound technicians, with questions focusing on different common sound problems as well as logistical pre-show issues. Here is some of the information I gathered for the most common feedback related issues on stage:

I focused on two main issues:

1. Usually when the technician arrives for the first time to a venue, He or She has to deal with  the local equipment. some Information can be unclear regarding the condition of the gear due to the fact the technician is unfamiliar with the equipment and counting on the band or the manager for the information. This gap of communication is left for the technician to find out on its own sometimes, and can be harmful to the working progress.

2. The Technician deals with a question of how to position the equipment on stage, such as amps mics etc, in order to get the best acoustics during the show. acoustic replacement can prolong the time of the pre-show sound checks and eventually the show itself.

in conclusion, It takes long time to find out the source of a sound problem, which could be cleared out with clear previous information given to the technician, or pre - handed acoustic analysis of the stage.

Empathize

👨🏻 Persona

In order to understand, empathize, and present the main problems users face while taking on the position of sound engineers or backline personas on stage, I created a persona. I then took the task of solving the everyday job issues they encounter.

Background

Omri is a freelance sound designer, living with two friends, and managing his own business ,the "Musical" studio, in Bat yam. He is often working on mixes from 10:00 to 16:00 on weekdays.

Omri often looking to expend his knowledge in the world of sound, and for new exciting live stages he never worked for to gain more experience in the field. He has some free time on the weekends so usually he manages to combine the two positions: studio and live concerts, while driving with his car outside of his comfort zone.

He travels at least two times a week between the studio and different booked stages. Yet because of the short time between renting his services for different concerts and managing his own business, he find it hard to manage information of stage setups, connecting to venues, and had some trouble with sound checks lately.

Personality

"I use online apps regularly, via wifi connections to digital consoles and to search for new gigs online, but If I had an app that helps me understand in advance what is going on in different stages before starting the sound check that would make my life much easier".

Pathfinding

🎯 WorkFlow

The goals and the frustrations of my persona helped me to define the flows better. I created three main flows for the user.

🌟 App Features

Once the research has completed, I moved to wireframing and designing the screens of the main scenarios in the app.

Club Reviews by other Technicians

On the Gostage App you can find reviews of many Sound technicians who worked before you on the stage you booked.

An easy way to find out the conditions of the local equipment, issues with acoustics, cable wiring and other sound issues, so you will be ready for the sound check and the concert itself.

The App lets you filter between dates/ratings given to the stage, even to use keywords in order find out the relevant review you are looking for.

Acoustic Camera Scan

On the Gostage App you can find out what is the best way to place the band members and equipment on a said stage.

First, scan with your camera the stage (available when GPS notices club arrival). Then, upload the stage plot of the band to the App. Then you will receive a screen synapsis of how to replace the band members and equipment to get best acoustics results.

🎨 UI Design

Creating the styleguide and the App main screens helped me refine the app’s design language. I then applied the additional styles and placed the objects and components on the Figma App with adding secondary screens such as Club location search and Chat with other Sound technicians.
